almost forgot....

I am a big fan of Threadless T-shirts and I just wanted everyone to see this totally cute knitter-friendly design:

Minizoom

Available in Ts, hoodies, even kids Ts and onesies! I might need a hoodie.....

eeek - tivo freakout!

Help! My Tivo is freaking out on me! It started making a loud, constant buzzing sound tonight and froze up while I was watching House. I unplugged and let it reboot itself and it seems to be working again but the buzz is still there. Oooh, I am going to be so bummed if I get back from vacation to a busted TV - there's just too much going on, what with Heroes being totally awesome and the return of Veronica Mars.

Thankfully, the Tivo didn't freak until after I watched tonight's *amazing* episode of Heroes. Wow. Just wow. I'm still confused but so can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm knitting, there just aren't any pictures yet. Still at a standstill on the SKB - just the sleeves to finish. I started Arisaig using Knitpicks Palette in Ash but the teenytiny size 1 needles are making me a little crazy and I decided I needed some more instant gratification so I started the Retro Redux shrug from Lace Style. I had some boring black Paton's Classic Wool for that one - I thought I had enough Cashmerino Aran, which would have been nicer, but if I do I sure can't find it. I really need to clean out that hall closet.

I really like the Lace Style book - cute patterns, and a really nice section on fixing mistakes in lace knitting.

I'm having fun preparing for my trip - I'm addicted to the Travel Channel! I have my Tivo set to record shows about Spain - I kind of love Samantha Brown, who is sort of the Rachael Ray of the Travel Channel. Perky and cute and only slightly annoying (I love Ray Ray :-))

no, really, i'm still here!

It's been a crazy few weeks, though. Lots of stuff piling up at once - new people going into the show, doctor's appointments, jury duty, vacation planning.

Yes, vacation planning! I'm going to Spain! Barcelona, Granada, Seville. I can't wait. I've traveled extensively all through my life, but I realized that this is my first solo, non-work-related, lengthy (2 weeks) trip to a non-English speaking country. I think I'll be fine - language is actually why I chose Spain over Italy - I speak and read some Spanish and not a lick of Italian. I'm trying to pack light - well, my version of light. I can live with not a lot of clothing, but if I don't have all my hair care stuff, I'm miserable. I thought about carrying everything on, but finally realized that I just don't mind a bit of a wait at the airport for bags. It gives you a chance to get acclimated to hearing the language and feeling the rhythms of a place before you get shot out of a cannon into a completely new city.

So, yeah, any advice or recommendations about my destinations would be appreciated. I'm pretty prepared - I'm a big researcher before I go anywhere.

There's been knitting, too - I'm nearly done with SKB. I just need to decide on a sleeve length (long? 3/4?) and block it. I got a lot of knitting done at jury duty, surprisingly - I didn't bring it the first day since I wasn't sure about security issues but there was a gal knitting a scarf on smallish bamboo needles in my room, so I asked the security guards about bringing metal needles and they said it was fine. And it was - they seemed much more concerned with cameras and recording devices. (this was at 100 Centre Street - Criminal Courts in NYC. It might be different in other courts.)

Jury duty was pretty painless.  I actually met a really nice guy and we talked the whole time :-)  They even have wi-fi! Even though it was the week of Good Friday, there were cases being heard, but I managed to escape being called to a panel. Thank goodness, because there were some pretty ugly cases going on - I think I really dodged a bullet!
