Heroes - omg omg omg!

Dude, if you're watching Heroes and you haven't seen tonight's episode, get to the TV *now* and watch it!  So. Freaking. Good. I don't want to spoil anyone and I still kind of need to process things, but trust me. Watch.

I am sad to report that I was unable to repeat my triumph in the Oscar pool at work. I was sooo close, too, but Dr. Dillamond kicked my ass. My risky choices paid off, but there were a couple where I went against my gut feeling (especially costumes and supporting actor) and I was foiled. Actually, I realized about halfway through that he & I had the exact same answers in all the remaining categories but one, and the best I could have done was tie if Babel won editing. Which it didn't. Oh well. And geez, what a dreadful and loooong show that was, huh? I actually liked Ellen a lot but the filler made me want to throw things. It was worth the wait til the end to see the Three Amigos present an Oscar to Scorcese. And Helen Mirren rocks. The end.

warm hands...

Look, another done thing:

Spiral ribbed handwarmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. The yarn is Artyarns Supermerino from my shopping spree last spring when The Lion and the Lamb went out of business. Awesome yarn - I'd love a Clapotis out of it someday. I have three skeins - I started My So-Called Scarf, then put it aside for these little mitts, now I'm working on the scarf again. I think I might actually have enough for a hat as well - probably Santa Cruz from Magknits. Of course, now the weather is warming up and I probably won't get any use from my matched set this year. Oh well.

OK - if you watch Lost or The Amazing Race and haven't seen the last episodes, read no further....

TAR - oh, god, I am so sick of Rob and Amber. And I was crushed when Jill & Jon Vito were out first. It was so enjoyable to have them back on my TV......waaaah. I don't know who to root for now - Kevin and Drew were surprisingly unlikeable - I hope they cheer up!

Lost - seriously, people - Bai freaking Ling? They couldn't find an Asian actress who can, well, ACT? That was painful. The "sheriff" lady was pretty cool, though. I really hope the writers have a goal this season, or I may have to give up.

Bummer about Studio 60 getting the axe since the cast was so great, but I got so tired of being lectured by Aaron Sorkin.... maybe he can use his new free time to get actual therapy instead of working out his crap on the air.

done deal

Woohoo, I told you I actually finished something!

This is the hat that was supposed to be Chris's Christmas present, but Kate's braided scarf kind of took over. So I gave Chris a .... swatch. And then we got all crazy busy at work so knitting wasn't a priority. Chris went to LA for a couple of weeks while the temperatures plummeted here, so I finally got my act together and finished it in time for his return to NY. I was a little worried about the fit because Chris has  ginormous head, but I added a few rows here and there and it was just perfect. He loves it, and I love that he loves it!

The yarn is an unlabeled merino/cashmere blend from School Products. It feels a little rough in the skein, but once it's washed and blocked it blooms and softens beautifully. The pattern is from the first issue of the MenKnit e-zine - the cabled skullcap. Unfortunately, the pattern had some errors in it and I managed to find the blog of the guy who wrote the pattern and I searched back until I found his corrections, but now I can't find the blog! It's a nice pattern, and great for chunkier yarns.

Still working on My So-Called Scarf and matching handwarmers from my stash of Artyarns Supermerino - more on that soon!

yeah, yeah, yeah

Dude, I'm still here. Really. I've been way better at posting photos here and on flickr than I've been at actually writing anything worth reading. Hopefully that will change soon.

Lots of change at work. New, very different energy. It's good, I think. It's not translating into the rest of my life, unfortunately. I'm in one of those periods where I get very overwhelmed and I tend to start and never finish projects and then I just feel like I'm in over my head in every aspect of my life. I hate it. I think it's a winter thing for me. I just want to curl up and hibernate until spring.

Well, there has been some knitting, and an actual finished object that is currently blocking in the kitchen. Pictures soon. I have a couple of things on the needles and at least one sweater waiting in the wings. Trying to knit up some stash!

Until I get my act together with some photos and more interesting news, check out a couple of cool non-knitting related sites I've discovered lately:
